Innovation: Is It Inventing Something Novel Or Utilising Tools To Solve Problems?

What is innovation? Is it inventing something novel, or is it coming up with smart solutions based on the tech or platform you have to solve complex problems? I think many will find it confusing to define innovation, and the questions above often cross our minds, adding even more confusion.

At Future Pulse , we wanted to conduct an annual event called Innovate & Elevate. As part of this, we asked all our team members at Future Pulse to form their own teams and implement something in AI—a hackathon-style initiative. We encouraged them to research and propose their own ideas. The results were amazing—some of the ideas addressed real-world problems directly.

The idea was simple: we wanted everyone at Future Pulse to learn and implement AI.

It served two key purposes for us:

1. Encourage learning – Everyone participated and learned something new.
2. Showcase our capabilities – We were able to demonstrate our talent, strength, and innovation to our guests, prospects, and customers.

We made videos of the solutions and shared them with our customers and prospects. These were also included in our company capability deck. We’ve listed the use cases and solutions in the image below.

Note: Not all of the use cases were part of the original hackathon—they emerged as an evolution of the solutions built during it. Each one has grown into a real-world application across different industries.

Conclusion

Innovation is not just about inventing something novel. I believe it’s also about utilising the tools we have to solve problems in a smarter way. A hackathon is one of the best ways to generate a flood of ideas while embedding a learning-first culture within the organisation.
