Do you have enough time?

These are common statements I hear from people all the time.

  • "Where does my day go?"
  • "I'm Flat out mate"
  • "I work 50 hours per week"

So are people really that busy, or are there other issues?

It is an interesting exercise to actually look at what you are spending your time on during the week.  For most of us it looks pretty similar; meetings, emails, chasing down information, rectifying issues etc.

So what about the important things; like getting the best out of your people, or driving business development and innovation?

Here's an idea to get more from your day!  Think about something that you would like to achieve or do.  A good place to start might be working on developing your team, now let's create some time to actually do it;

                 STOP                                        DELEGATE                                        IMPROVE....

Choose an area that is taking up a large part of your week (let's say meetings), which is a fairly common one for most people, and apply the model.

Stop - Do we really need this meeting and do I need to be there?

Delegate - Can I send someone in my team to represent me or the department?

Improve - Can we improve the meeting process?

The great benefit of applying this tool, is that you also start to develop your team by giving individuals more responsibility through the process.  You will also find that working on team and business initiatives stops the reactive activities in the day, so you gain even more time to focus on other leadership tasks.

Start the journey today...
